DPI and Argonne soliciting proposals for seed grants
Up to $250,000 per project available to support collaborative research
The Discovery Partners Institute (DPI) and Argonne National Lab invite faculty from the University of Illinois System and researchers from Argonne and other institutions to submit proposals for seed funding to support collaborative research to advance energy technologies in the following industry sectors:
- Energy-Water-Food Nexus
- Energy Infrastructure and Transportation
- Climate and Sustainability
Up to $250,000 will be provided for each project for a period of up to 24 months. $125,000 is reserved for salary and expenses of the team from University of Illinois campuses. $125,000 is reserved for salary and expenses of the team from Argonne.
Proposals should draw upon the advances in technologies, including the applications of data analytics or computing technologies, to problems facing these sectors in order to address important societal challenges in the Chicago area and beyond.
Applicants are encouraged to consider the impact of their work on underrepresented communities in the Chicago area. Proposed projects should be interdisciplinary and address the broader aspects and impacts of the problems tackled – for example, through the active participation of researchers from the social sciences and humanities, art, design, education, law, or public policy.

An informational session will be held to provide a general overview of the DPI-Argonne seed grants and facilitate team formation. Advanced registration required.
Prior to the meeting, the research interests and contact information for those who registered will be distributed to enable off-line networking.
