Secretary of the U.S. Treasury Janet Yellen joined Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, and Chancellor Michael Amiridis at the UIC Innovation Center for a tour and news conference on Wednesday, March 2nd.

The UIC Innovation Center demonstrates a tangible model of engagement between the university and industry. The tour showcased the work being done at the center, which is often referred to as a “corporate front door.” UIC faculty and students work together to problem solve and develop solutions for industry sponsors such as OSF HealthCare and Caterpillar.

The visit highlighted how the Innovation Center is building partnerships that deliver ideas and products that drive economic growth, including UIC-developed medical devices, innovations addressing health equity for OSF HealthCare, and technology solutions developed for Caterpillar.

Secretary Yellen’s visit to Chicago followed the State of the Union address to promote President Biden’s economic agenda. Several media, including ABC, NBC, CBS, WGN, WTTW, Chicago Sun-Times, Chicago Tribune, Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg and Reuters attended the tour and news conference at the Innovation Center.
