About
Marty Gutierrez serves as Senior Director of Government Affairs and Advocacy at the University of Illinois-Chicago. In this role, she leads the UIC Government Relations and Advocacy agenda and initiatives. Marty strategically builds strong relationships with local, state and federal elected officials, government agencies as well as key external stakeholders. Marty represents UIC and has a leadership role in Chicago’s America’s Urban Campus Coalition.
Before UIC in 2009, Marty was Executive Director of the Rauner Family YMCA, a-non-for profit community center that serves the south-west side of Chicago. For five years she was responsible for ensuring the success of this full-service YMCA, including educational programs for teens, social services for families and children, community health & fitness initiatives and a childcare center that served over 150 program participants.
Earlier, Marty served in the City of Chicago’s Mayor’s Office from 1993 until 2004. While at the Mayor’s Office, she served as an Assistant to the Mayor (intergovernmental affairs and capital and infrastructure projects), Director of Latino Affairs, Director of Public Affairs and the Director of the Mayor’s Scheduling & Advance Office.
Marty has been an active leader in community, civic and philanthropic organizations throughout Chicago for many years. She has served and supported a wide variety of local and international organizations including Free Spirit Media, National Museum of Mexican Art, Rauner Family YMCA, and Chicago International Sister City Program. Marty holds a B.A. in Marketing Communications from Columbia College Chicago. A 2009 alum of the Leadership of Greater Chicago program.
