Get your proposals ready! Applications now open for CTRI, CHA

UIC Innovation seeking proposals for translational research funding.

UIC Innovation wants to help turn your ideas into action. Our programs support innovative research that solves real world problems, helping bring new discoveries to market and creating solutions that transform lives.

We're accepting proposals for the Chancellor's Translational Research Initiative (CTRI) and Community Health Advocacy (CHA) program. So if you're a UIC researcher looking to advance your ideas and you're seeking funding to support your work, check out these opportunities.

Chancellor’s Translational Research Initiative

Deadline to apply: March 14, 2022

The Chancellor’s Translational Research Initiative (CTRI) program is now accepting applications for projects with high commercialization potential. UIC researchers have the opportunity to receive up to $25,000 to advance their technologies and prove the viability of their ideas.

CTRI supports the development of disruptive technologies across a wide range of areas – from medicine and engineering to social sciences and public health. Successful completion of the CTRI program often leads to additional funding opportunities.

Applications must include the following:

  • Problem Statement – Describe your proposed project. What is the problem being solved? How does your proposal uniquely solve this problem?
  • Impact – How will your idea change the world? What is your big picture vision?
  • Research Plan – Describe your hypothesis and the objectives of your project. How will you achieve these objectives? What approach will you take?
  • Milestone – Identify a singular milestone to complete during the 4-month project period.
  • Proposed Budget – Provide a breakdown of project expenses and the rationale for each.

Applicants must be full-time UIC researchers and have an invention disclosure on file with the Office of Technology Management or the proposed project must result in a new disclosure. Applications are reviewed by an internal committee composed of faculty experts and evaluated based on technological merit, commercial market attractiveness, and the feasibility of completing the project within the requested budget and timeframe.

Community Health Advocacy Program

Deadline to apply: March 7, 2022

The CHA program provides up to $75,000 to teams of UIC researchers and clinicians from OSF HealthCare developing solutions to health challenges in urban communities. Teams of clinicians, engineers, and social scientists work together to develop technologies and devices that could revolutionize health care.

We are looking for new tools, techniques and processes that remove barriers to care, enhance health and wellness education, and leverage technology to improve training and community outreach. To receive funding, applicants must show that their solutions can be developed quickly, and within the defined project period.

To be considered for funding, projects should focus on one of the following:

  • Exploring prototypes for the transformation of care and community-based initiatives that address social determinants of health
  • Improving outcomes and reducing health care disparities
  • Increasing access to care and reducing barriers to care for individuals from all racial and ethnic backgrounds

The program is open to all UIC faculty and OSF clinicians. Proposals must include one faculty member from UIC and one health care provider from OSF.
